OWN CORRESPONDENT, Faisalabad | Friday 5.00pm.
HEAVY fog has wiped out play for a second day in the third and final cricket Test between Pakistan and Zimbabwe Friday.
The home team did not turn up at the stadium at all while the tourists left the stadium after lunch when the umpires called off the day’s play as visibility remained poor.
Interest in the match appeared to be fading, with Pakistan’s hopes to level the terms dashed and the Zimbabweans in sight of a series win.
Zimbabwe won the first Test at Peshawar by seven wickets and the second at Lahore was abandoned on the fifth day due to fog.
The local administration said it would try to fix an exhibition one-day match between the two teams in case the Test was abandoned without any action.
“It’s really frustrating because we wanted to save the series, but we are helpless. It was up to the Pakistan Cricket Board to shift the match to another place,” Pakistan coach Javed Miandad said.
Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell said: “The guys are bored but we are inching towards our first-ever series win and the mere thought of it is refreshing.”–AFP
