CO-OPERATION between the Mpumalanga taxi industry and Trans Africa Concession, the company building the toll road between Witbank and Maputo, paid off during the festive season, said Trac chief executive officer, Trevor Jackson, on Monday. He said 360 minibus taxis stopped at rest areas along the N4 Toll Route after pamphlets were distributed at taxi ranks. “The pamphlets urged taxi drivers to make regular rest stops and included a safety check list.” Mpumalanga traffic officials and taxi industry representatives helped taxi drivers check their vehicles at the rest areas. Co-operation with the taxi industry saw an increase in the immediate towing of broken down vehicles, faster accident analysis and a decrease in fatalities on the N4 Toll Route in December, he said.
