A LAWSUIT by former employees of Thor Chemicals in Cato Ridge near Durban will go ahead in England, the British Court of Appeals ruled on Wednesday. The British-based multinational appealed on Wednesday against a lower court ruling in July 1998 that the group of workers, who claim they suffered mercury poisoning at Thor’s Cato Ridge plant, could sue Thor in an English courts. The appeal was dismissed, according to the workers’ legal representative Richard Meeran. The case follows an earlier settlement reached between Thor and a group of 20 former employees who suffered mercury poisoning while working at Cato Ridge.
