Madiba’s Soweto 2×4 a monument

President Nelson Mandela’s former home in Soweto was among 29 edifices declared national monuments on Thursday. Outgoing Arts and Culture Minister Lionel Mtshali announced on Thursday that, besides the home Mandela occupied until his arrest in 1963, other monuments included: Pretoria’s Great Synagogue, scene of the 1956 treason trial, the Rose Cottage Cave in Ladybrand with its San rock art, Plettenberg Bay’s Robberg Nature Reserve, the Cradock Pass over the Outeniqua Mountains, the Cape St Blaize Cave at Mossel Bay and the Robben Island embarkation building and quay at Cape Town’s Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
