MOROCCO CHASING NATIONS CUP VENUE

THE Moroccan football federation said on Thursday it is prepared to host next year’s African Nations Cup in place of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe lost the tournament on Monday after the Confederation of African Football found the country has not made sufficient progress in building stadiums or developing an infrastructure to televise the games. South Africa, host in 1996, said on Wednesday it too would consider stepping in. Egypt and Nigeria are also expected to offer themselves. All four countries, as well as Ghana, are bidding to host the 2006 World Cup finals. The deadline for bids to host the sixteen-team Nations Cup is March 10, and a decision will be made on March 14.
