MEC TO BE ARRESTED FOR CONTEMPT

EASTERN Cape transport and public works MEC Thobile Mhlahlo was on Tuesday arrested by Umtata High Court Judge Stefaans Visser, for contempt of court. Mhlahlo and his secretary were ordered in November 1998 to explain to the court why 35 former civil servants were not paid voluntary severance packages. Visser said then that the former state employees should be paid immediately.
