BLACK investors have to date claimed more than 5% of the market capitalisation on the Johannesburg bourse, an independent analysis unit said. Business Map, an investment analysis group, said in a report distributed on Friday that the market share controlled by black companies has grown to 5,5% from 4,8% in 1997. The unit’s annual review of black economic empowerment recorded a whopping 320% increase in the value of black business deals in 1998 to R21-billion. There are now 35 black-controlled companies listed on the JSE, up from 27 a year ago, bringing their combined market capitalisation to R58,7-billion.
