A 63-year-old Hungarian herbalist charged with raping two young girls and indecently assaulting six others was refused bail by the Belfast Regional Court in Mpumalanga on Thursday. Charles Joseph Baksai of Machadodorp also faces eight child labour charges. Regional Magistrate Charles Combrink said as rape was involved, the defence has to prove that granting bail will be in the interests of justice. Baksai was remanded to August 4 for trial. When Baksai’s counsel, Johan Brand, applied for bail on Wednesday he said his client had been impotent for years. Baksai was arrested on February 2 after allegedly bribing groups of Machadodorp township girls, some as young as 11, to have afternoons of group sex and drugs with him over a six-year-period. Police confiscated more than 50000 pills alleged to be sexual stimulants and energy drugs from his home.
