AmaZulu draw Vaal Pros

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Johannesburg | Sunday 5.00pm.

AMAZULU and Vaal Professionals drew their Castle Premier League match 1-1 at Kings Park in Durban on Sunday.

There was no score at half-time, but the visiting side protested when Papi Mbele managed to scramble the ball over the AmaZulu goalline in the 18th minute from a cross by Rabi Nkoane which eluded the usually safe hands of goalkeeper Pelewe Demagogo.

But referee Trevor Christian disallowed the goal when his assistant indicated an off-side infringement.

AmaZulu had enjoyed territorial advantage but were let down by ineffective finishing.

But their persistence paid off with only five minutes left to play when they equalised with a goal involving two substitutes.

Joseph Mlaba took a corner-kick on the left which dropped into the Pros area and Dylin Pillay was on hand to ram the ball past goalkeeper Mandla Dlamini.

With the two Cape sides Hellenic and Spurs not in action this weekend the point earned by AmaZulu lifts them two places up the log on 35 points, a point less than Bush Bucks who were beaten 3-2 by Qwa Qwa Stars at the Charles Mopeli Stadium.

Meawhile Moroka Swallows beat Dynamos 2-0 to gain three vital league points in their Premier League game played George Goch Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

The win gave Swallows the chance to escape relegation.

The first goal was scored in the 31st minute when Sisa Nombe headed home from a throw-in from Gavin Lane.

The goal that sealed Dynamos’ fate was scored in the second half by William Lerefolo after he collected a pass from Patrick Ningiza in the 70th minute.
