SA STILL JUNIOR CHAMPS

SOUTH Africa retained the African junior tennis championship title for the sixth consecutive year on Sunday after the finals of the 22nd MTN African Junior Championships at Groenkloof in Pretoria. South Africa added one more singles title to their impressive total of six titles already won when Capetonian Aniela Mojzis, seeded two, upset top seed compatriot Natalie Grandin 6-4 7-5 in the girls under-18 final. The victory by Mojzis gave South Africa four out of eight possible singles titles. The local team won three out of six possible doubles titles. SA captain Kobus Botha said he was satisfied with his team’s performance. In the boys under-18 final, third seed Mohamed Mamoun of Egypt stopped unseeded “giant-killer” Hicham Fathi El Idrissi of Morocco 4-6 6-4 6-3 to win his third African Championship title.
