SA CHAMP OUT EARLY

MILLY Wasserzug won the national singles bowls title in Port Elizabeth last week, but on Saturday she lost in the first round of the Spar women’s tournament in Florida. Wasserzug — who added the national singles title to the runners-up prize to the Masters she won earlier this year and was recently named as South Africa’s singles player in the African State tournament in July — lost 21-20 to Marie Dell of Standerton to go out in the first round. Other first-round casualties included international Barbara Redshaw and new squad player Win Bonthuys, who played third in the victorious Kensington side which won the national fours title in Port Elizabeth last weekend.
