25000 CIVIL SERVANTS REDUNDANT

ABOUT 25000 civil servants are redundant, Public Service and Administration director-general Paseka Ncholo said on Wednesday. These officials will be retrained to be employed either in the private sector or elsewhere in the public service, he told reporters after the cabinet’s fortnightly meeting in Pretoria. He said a skills audit of the public service in terms of a recommendation by the Presidental Review Commission is underway in several provinces. It so far revealed that civil servants with no specific work to do numbered 8000 in the Northern Province and 3000 in Northwest. A preliminary total of 22000 in the Eastern Capeis expected to come down to 14000 in a more detailed analysis.
