PHILLIP NKOSI, Machadodorp | Thursday 2.15pm.
A POLICEMAN from Diepkloof in Soweto was arrested on Wednesday after he and a gang of men allegedly tried to hijack a car on the N4 highway in Mpumalanga.
Police spokesman Captain Izak van Zyl said the policeman was arrested when two other police officers drove by and saw the gang trying to hijack motorist, Faquir Ishmael, 31.
Ishmael was travelling between Machadodorp and Belfast at about 7.30pm when a car, with four men in it, signalled to him to pull over
One of the men produced a police identification card, ordered him out of his car and handcuffed him.
But two police officers from Waterval Boven drove past and chased the stolen car, which cut out after an anti-hijacking device cut its fuel line.
One of the two suspects who were arrested was the Diepkloof policeman, who van Zyl did not identify. – African Eye News Service
