A BRITISH police chief was critically injured when his car rolled several times near Oshoek on the border between Mpumalanga and Swaziland on Monday, police said on Tuesday. Police spokesperson Inspector Sibongile Nkosi said Chief Superintendent George Balchin, 49, of the London City police appeared to have fallen asleep at the wheel of his Land Rover at about 3pm and crashed about 15km from the border into South Africa. Balchin, who was based at the British High Commission in Lesotho, had just left Swaziland for South Africa. He was in a stable condition at the Mid Med hospital in Middelburg, with blood clots inhis lungs and a small fracture to his pelvis.
