MEHRTENS INJURED IN FINAL

ALL Black fly-half Andrew Mehrtens could miss three of New Zealand’s World Cup warm-up games after aggravating a groin injury in Sunday’s Super 12 final. “He had the injury before the game, he will see a surgeon in Auckland in the next 48 hours, and then we’ll make a decision on what should be done at that time,” New Zealand coach John Hart said Monday. Mehrtens, who marshalled Canterbury Crusaders to 24-19 win over Otago Highlanders on Sunday, has been carrying the injury for two to three weeks. If Mehrtens does have to have an operation, he would miss the Tests against Samoa, in Albany, on June 18; France, in Wellington, on June 26; and South Africa in Dunedin on July 10.
