ZAMBIA GETS WORLD BANK HELP

THE World Bank said on Friday that it will grant Zambia $630-million in loans. Of the total, $390-million is earmarked for projects to revive the farm sector, where output dropped last year following flooding in the north and spells of drought in the south of the country. The bank approved of Zambia’s economic reform programme and called on Zambia to alleviate poverty, impose a strict tax policy and complete the process to privatise the still mainly state-owned copper mines.
