NIGERIAN POLICE SHOOT STUDENT

NIGERIAN police shot dead three members of a student gang after they broke in and killed the registrar of their university at Abraka, southern Nigeria, police said, cited in local press on Monday. The three were shot and killed at the weekend after breaking into the home of Delta State University registrar, one S Otulu, killing him and seriously injuring his wife, police said. The reason for the attack on the registrar’s home was not clear. Reports said those arrested were children of some lecturers at the university. Nigeria’s universities have been affected for several years by a problem of student gangs, known as cults, which are allegedly involved in various sorts of criminal activities. Otulu’s wife was reported Monday recovering in hospital.
