‘MEDICAL REASONS’ FOR OMISSIONS

AFTER the outcry over which Springboks have been released by the SA Rugby Football Union (Sarfu) for Currie Cup play this weekend, the governing body issued a statement noting “medical reasons” to keep certin players off the pitch a while longer. Free State was the most vocal in demanding to know why their Springboks — Naka Drotske, Andre Venter and Os du Randt — will not be allowed to play in Saturday’s crunch Currie Cup match against Western Province in Bloemfontein. WP, however, has been given the go-ahead to field Charl Marais, Breyton Paulse and Pieter Rossouw.
