SHELL WORKERS KIDNAPPED IN NIGERIA

YOUTHS in the southern Nigerian oil-producing region have kidnapped 64 employees of the Anglo-Dutch group Shell.

The youths seized the Shell employees last Tuesday from a drilling rig in the Isoko area near the troubled oil town of Warri

Seven of those being held are expatriates of various nationalities while the remainder are Nigerians

Kidnappings of oil workers take place regularly in the Niger delta region, a poor and underdeveloped area which accounts for 95 percent of Nigeria’s oil production
