POLICE CRIME CRACKDOWN NABS THOUSANDS

POLICE in KwaZulu-Natal announced on Friday that they have arrested 7166 suspects and seized 443 illegal firearms in July in a crackdown on crime named “Operation Monozite”. Police spokesman Director Bala Naidoo said of those arrested, 2874 were apprehended for serious crimes and 4292 for less serious offences. Similar operations were conducted by police and the SA National Defence Force around the country. Naidoo said the success of the operation has prompted police to extend it for another month. The police’s air wing and the South African Air Force assisted in the operation.
