WORKERS STRIKE OVER PROVIDENT FUND

SOME 4000 workers at the Northam Platinum mine in Northern Province went on strike on Tuesday over a dispute over their provident fund benefits. The workers refused to to work after reportedly demanding their money out of the Gold Fields group provident fund — which is administered by the Alexander Forbes financial services group. Management is holding talks with union representatives in a bid to resolve the dispute.
