CORRUPTION buster Judge Willem Heath has been requested to investigate claims that the University of the North’s new vice chancellor, Dr Biki Minyuku, may be earning up to R1,4-million per year
Health Northern Province investigation manager, Frank Vos, confirmed on Wednesday that he had applied for a presidential proclamation to investigate Minyuku’s appointment and salary.
The planned probe follows written requests for intervention by the University’s executive council, which appears uncertain whether Minyuku earns R1,4-million or R900000 per year.
“We haven’t starting investigating anything yet because I only applied to the Justice Department for a proclamation one month ago. Once we have the green light, we’ll try to establish whether Minyuku was appointed procedurally and try to determine exactly how much he earns,” said Vos.
The executive council’s appeal to Heath follows a spate of media and opposition political party criticism about Minyuku’s role at the university.
Vos stressed that Minyuku had himself sent a letter of support to Heath urging that the investigation be concluded as soon as possible to clear both the University and his own name. –African Eye News Service
