ZAMBIAN journalist Chola Bright Mwape, a champion for media freedom in Southern Africa and information co-ordinator for the Media Institute of Southern Africa, died on Monday night after being involved in a car accident near Keetmanshoop in Nambia on Friday. Mwape headed Misa’s media information unit, which carries out a broad range of projects including the daily monitoring and international reporting of press freedom violations in 11 Southern African Development Community countries. Mwape, who was 33, is survived by his wife, Judy, and their 20-month old-son, Isaiah, who both sustained minor injuries in the accident. The family was returning from a holiday in South Africa at the time of the accident. The DM&G is a contributing member of Misa.
