NIGERIA and Ghana, the co-hosts of the 2000 African Nations Cup, have agreed a fixture list for the upcoming tournament, to be approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The list was made public by the Nigerian Local Organising Committee for the event due to kick off in Accra, Ghana, on January 22. Ghana’s Black Stars will play their first round matches in Accra beginning with the championship’s opening game while the Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin their own quest for the cup a day later in Lagos. Under the proposed fixture list, the 16 teams that qualify for the championship will be divided into four groups with matches played in Accra and Kumasi in Ghana, and Lagos and Kano in Nigeria. Quarter final matches are slated for February 6 in Ghana and February 7 in Nigeria while the semi-finals will take place on February 10, one in Ghana and the other in Nigeria. The third-place match comes up on February 12 in Accra and the final in Lagos on February 13. The draw for the event is due to take place in Lagos on August 28.
