A METRORAIL train driver faces disciplinary action after the accident near Riverlea, Johannesburg which left four commuters dead and at least 20 injured in October. A Metrorail statement issued on Friday said the driver had been travelling at high speed and had lost control of the train when it went through a red signal and crashed into a stationary freight train on October 15. “The board [of inquiry} concluded that the signalling infrastructure was in normal working condition, and so was the train. The speed at which the train was travelling was found to be the cause of the accident.” Three men and a woman who died in the accident were buried with the assistance of Metrorail and SA Rail Commuter Corporation. The injured, among them the Metrorail driver who suffered face lacerations, have since been discharged from hospital.
