JAMES Bryant scored a splendid century to put Eastern province in a strong position on the first day of a four-day Supersport Series match against Western Province in Cape Town on Friday.
Bryant was eventually sent back to the hut after being caught by Herschelle Gibbs at midwicket for 131.
Bryant was caught behind off Roger Telemachus with no score but the delivery was judged to be a no-ball.
Carl Bradfield was the first wicket to go down when he was caught at slip by HD Ackerman off the bowling of Telemachus. Bryant then joined opener Mark Benfield and their half-century partnership came off 90 balls.
Paul Adams broke the partnership when he trapped Benfield in front for 55 off 98 balls (8×4).
Next, Dave Callaghan joined Bryant and their partnership of 71 was broken when Adams bowled Callaghan around his legs as he tried to sweep for 22.
