THE Lusaka High Court has ordered the release of nine Ukrainians and a Zambian charged with espionage after the government decided against prosecuting them, their lawyer said on Monday. Lawyer Sakbwiba Sikota said the authorities have given the defendants until Friday to leave the country. The defendants were arrested in August for allegedly overflying a restricted military base before landing at Lusaka airport. The governement had earlier accused, but not formally charged, them with using Zambian airspace to ship arms to Angolan Unita rebels. Sikota said a South African who was charged along with them but apparently skipped bail is still wanted by the authorities.
