COACH Jo Bonfrere has appealed for Nigerian fans to support the Super Eagles properly and not turn against the team if it fails to score early in Thursday’s crunch match against Morocco.
Nigerian supporters went on the rampage last week, throwing bottles, attacking the players and smashing up the team bus and local football association offices, after the home team only managed a draw with lowly Congo in the opening round of the African Nations Cup.
Little over half way through the Congo match the crowd started shouting abuse at the Nigerian players, demoralising the team, according to officials.
Now, on Thursday, the team plays Morocco with a place in the last eight at stake. A draw would put both sides through, but Nigerians are keen for a win.
“The tonic they need to win well is support,” Bonfrere said on Wednesday.
