THE head of Cote d’Ivoire’s ruling junta, General Robert Guei, attended late on Wednesday a memorial service for the 169 victims of the crash of a Kenya Airways’ aircraft on January 30. A total of 169 people died when the Airbus plunged into the sea close to Abidjan, two minutes after take-off. Aside from Guei, several government ministers, relatives of victims and representatives from Kenyan Airways also joined the service held in Abidjan’s main funeral parlour. A day of national mourning had earlier been declared by the government, and all flags were at half-mast. Kenya Airways announced on Monday that 96 bodies had been recovered from the wreckage, 77 of which had been identified.
