SOUTH Africa’s Bradford Vaughan, a two-time winner on the Vodacom Tour, has a one shot lead after the first round of the Zambian Open at the Lusaka Golf Club. Vaughan, the elder of two brothers competing for the R500000 on offer this week, shot a magnificent six under-par 67, to lead by a stroke from defending champion Marc Cayeux. 1997 champion James Loughnane, tour veterans Andre Cruse and Justin Hobday as well as a new face on the Vodacom tour this year, Shane Howe are a further shot off the pace after shooting four under-par 69s. Vaughan, who started at the tenth hole, was one of the earlier finishers on a blustery day and was delighted with the way he played. “I was hitting the ball so well today the wind really wasn’t even bothering me”, he said afterwards. “Somehow I managed to shoot 67 without putting well, but I birdied the first three holes of the tough front nine and that really set me up.”
