A NEW Rwandan president to replace Pasteur Bizimungu will be elected by parliament on April 17, it was announced on Thursday. Bizimungu, who had been in office since 1994, resigned March 23 for “personal reasons.” Vice-president Paul Kagame is currently acting president. He and Charles Murigande, respectively president and secretary-general of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, have been designated presidential candidates by the ruling party.
