HURRICANES prop Kevin Yates was saved from another disciplinary sighting on Tuesday after the Hurricanes’ 23-43 loss to the Stormers in Cape Town Sunday. Match officials said they could not be sure who launched a flurry of blows at a second-half ruck, but footage seen in New Zealand showed that Yates was the agressor. Had Yates been cited, it would have been disastrous for his team’s semifinal chances, with the front row already depleted with the loss of prop Gordon Slater ahead of the must-win match against the Bulls in Pretoria this weekend. Yates was red-carded and suspended for a similar offence against Cats hooker Leon Boshoff in a fifth round of the Super 12.
