Algerian coach quits

OWN CORRESPONDENT, Paris | Friday 3.30pm.

ALGERIAN national coach Nasser Sandjak announced on Friday that he has quit his post and will be returning to French third division side Noisy-le-Sec, based in the suburbs of Paris.

“I’ve decided with a lot of regret not to renew my contract,” Sandjak said in a statement.

He said that the decision was taken because of ongoing problems with the Algerian Football Federation and, in particular, president Omar Kezzal.

Sandjak said that he failed to receive any response to proposals made for better conditions for the players following their first-round victories in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers.

After failing to get a response it was with regret that he decided to hand in his notice, he said.
