LEVERKUSEN SIGN OJIGWE

BUNDESLIGA runners-up Bayer Leverkusen have won the race for the signature of Nigerian international Pascal Ojigwe from rivals Kaiserslautern after the two clubs agreed on a 3.5-million mark ($1.68-million) transfer fee on Tuesday. The 23-year-old midfielder played last season at FC Cologne on loan and was a key factor in their winning promotion back to the top flight. Ojigwe was meant to return to Kaiserslautern but he refused, despite guarantees from coach Otto Rehhagel that he would be given a firm place in the side. Leverkusen who were on the verge of their first ever Bundesliga title last season when a loss in the last game of the campaign handed the title to rivals Bayern Munich on goal difference fought off competition from Cologne for Ojigwe’s services.
