THE government in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has seized the assets of two privately run radio and television networks, one week after barring them and eight others from broadcasting. Radio Tele Kin Malebo (RTKM) and Canal Kin 1 and 2 have been put under the management of the ministry of information. An official said RTKM had been seized because its owner, Ngongo Luwowo, a former information minister living in France, bought the equipment with state funds. The other network was seized because the government says it is owned by Jean-Pierre Bemba, the leader of the rebel Movement for the Liberation of Congo (MLC). On September 15, the government banned 10 networks, including RTKM, saying that they did not comply with the law. – Reuters
