A 47-year-old Rwandan who faces charges of genocide has abandoned his legal efforts to remain in Britain. Tharcisse Muvunyi is to face charges in connection with the deaths of 100 000 people during the 1994 genocide in the tiny central African country. Muvunyi was to have mounted a bid for freedom in the London High Court. But at the last minute, after receiving an undertaking that steps would be taken to protect him once he was sent back to Africa, he dropped the moves. He was also given assurances that he would be allowed to return to Britain if acquitted. – Reuters
