CYCLONE LOOMS OFF MOZAMBIQUE

CENTRAL Mozambique’s flood disaster appears set to worsen with more heavy rains expected and a cyclone looming in the Indian Ocean. Technicians at the Cahora Bassa Dam have widened the sluice gates into the Zambezi River, while a cyclone off the coast of Madagascar will probably strike by the weekend, bringing in more heavy rains. The flood has killed 62 people and left about 80 000 homeless. – AFP
