Ang Lee plans Crouching Tiger prequel

Ang Lee, director of the record breaking Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, has announced that he is working on a follow-up.

Following the success of the movie, the most profitable non-English language film ever, Lee has revealed that Crouching Tiger 2 will focus on the high-kicking warriors played by Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh in the original. According to Page Six.com, the film will be a prequel to the ten-time Oscar nominee.

“It would be very expensive, everybody’s going to charge me five times as much,” said Lee. “We got all the equipment for half price. When we went on location, they thought we were a TV crew. That’s not going to happen again.”

Yeoh, recently honoured at the annual ShoWest convention in Las Vegas as international star of the year, said it was the emotional impact of the film which explained its success. “Crouching Tiger shows that it doesn’t matter what the period is, it doesn’t matter what the language is, as long as it reaches out to people, it will be successful.”

Lee has two other projects to complete before he can think about shooting the prequel. One is a feature film version of the Incredible Hulk, while the other is a biopic of Harry Houdini.
