THE number of Malawians being deported from South Africa has become embarrassing, said spokesman for Malawi’s immigration office, Hudson Makhwala. He said at least 87 Malawians were deported from South Africa in the past two weeks. “This is very embarrassing for the nation and Malawians need to be educated before they visit other countries,” Mankhwala said. He said the Immigration Department would advise Malawian travellers, as could Malawian embassies in foreign countries. “The problem with most Malawians is that they are not conversant with visa requirements and do not know how to go about extending their visiting days,” he said. He confirmed, however, that many Malawians pretended to be on a brief visit to South Africa, but actually went looking for jobs. – African Eye News Service
