GERMAN Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer and South African Vice President Jacob Zuma met in Berlin on Monday to discuss bilateral relations and developments in the southern Africa. Zuma said he was “very satisfied” by the talks and expressed satisfaction with Germany’s efforts to support the Millennium Africa Recovery Programme (Map) to address the continent’s gravest problems. The scheme would oblige Africa to fight Aids, end its wars, lower investment risks, root out corruption, diversify production and draw up practical plans for Internet use. The meeting came at the start of a two-day gathering of the German-South African bilateral commission, and on the heels of a visit by South African President Thabo Mbeki in which he tried to drum up support for the Map before a summit meeting of the Group of Eight wealthiest nations later this month. – AFP
