FIRE THREATENS OIL PRODUCTION IN NIGERIA

A NEW oil pipeline fire is threatening to force Anglo-Dutch oil group Royal Dutch/Shell to cut exports by 200 000 barrels per day, a newspaper report said on Friday. The newspaper This Day quoted Shell representative Precious Omoku as saying production was threatened by the fire which Shell blamed on vandalism of its oil pipelines by fuel thieves. Shell staff had on Wednesday monitored an apparently successful attempt to break into two pipelines in southern Nigeria, Omoku said. Shell, the largest foreign oil company operating in Nigeria, last month stopped crude oil exports of 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) following a fire at a major terminal. – AFP
