PROVINCIAL transport MEC S’bu Ndebele expressed outrage at the killing of the operators, saying the murders could be detrimental to taxi peace efforts in the province. He identified two of the dead as DTOA chairman Ntuli and Pat Ntuli, both from Durban. According to Ndebele, Isaac Ntuli and the other occupants of the Golf were on their way to meet the Nongoma taxi operators to discuss a peace agreement reached by the DTOA and the Durban Long Distance Taxi Association. He said Ntuli recently drafted a peace process document in which he also pledged his support to the Taxi Tribunal that dealt with long distance taxi conflicts in Durban. ”It seems as if this submission that was presented to the Taxi Tribunal had unsettled certain rogue elements who are opposed to peace within the taxi industry,” he said. – Sapa
