Bloemfontein | Wednesday
A 14-MONTH-old baby girl was raped, allegedly by her uncles, in Tweeling in the Eastern Free State on Tuesday. This is the second reported rape of an infant this week.
The girl’s mother left her baby in the care of the men when she went to visit her mother-in-law, police representative Sergeant Loraine Kalp said on Wednesday.
On her return in the evening her daughter was crying and when she lifted her she saw blood on her bottom.
She took the baby to a clinic where she was told the girl had vaginal damage and had been raped.
The baby’s two uncles were arrested and will appear in court either on Wednesday or Thursday.
The baby was treated and is recovering at home with her mother.
This is the second reported rape of an infant this week.
On Monday six Upington men, aged between 24 and 66, appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on charges of raping and indecently assaulting a nine-month-old baby in Louisvale over the weekend.
