Gauteng education MEC Ignatius Jacobs, who was accompanying Asmal on a tour of three schools in Tsakane, stepped in and said: ”You are here to learn, the minister is going to address you. If you don’t want to listen, get out. ”Now is our opportunity as blacks… if we can’t respect our parents or we can’t respect our minister, then we are not worthy to be called blacks.” Asmal visited the Buhlebenfundo Secondary School, the Tsakane Secondary School and the JE Malepe Secondary School following class disruptions in the area. The disruptions were organised by leaders of the Pan Africanist Students Organisation (Paso) — a student movement aligned to the Pan Africanist Congress.
