Brakpan, Gauteng | Thursday
POLICE have arrested a 34-year old man who allegedly tortured, indecently assaulted and raped his 33-year old wife at their Brakpan home on Tuesday night.
East Rand police representative Anneline Prinsloo said the assailant allegedly punched his wife into a semi-conscious state, then dragged her into the bedroom and tortured her with an assortment of household utensils.
He then allegedly indecently assaulted her, first with an aerosol can, then with a metal pole.
He left the room, but the victim was unable to move, as she was badly hurt and bleeding profusely, Prinsloo said.
The assailant later returned to the bedroom and allegedly raped her, threatening her with dire consequences if she made any noise.
After he left the house to go to work on Wednesday, the woman managed to enlist the help of a neighbour, who took her to the district surgeon, Prinsloo said.
The district surgeon allegedly, and for unknown reasons, refused to see the victim and instead referred her to a local clinic.
By Wednesday night, the victim — who does not have a medical aid — had not yet been examined by a doctor.
A policewoman at the Brakpan police station had arranged for the victim to see her personal physician on Thursday, Prinsloo said.
Police arrested the woman’s husband on Wednesday afternoon and charged him with rape, indecent assault and gross bodily harm.
He will appear in the Brakpan magistrate’s court on Friday and the state will oppose bail, Prinsloo said. – Sapa
