Ford to be the ‘scapegoat’?

South African cricket coach Graham Ford may be axed from his position when the general council of the United Cricket Board meets to discuss recommendations made by the National Cricket Council.

The Johannesburg based daily, Business Day, and the Afrikaans daily, Beeld, reported on Wednesday that Ford would bear the brunt for South Africa losing so heavily against Australia this past summer.

Ford could get the axe, despite having a contract until the end of the World Cup next year.

Beeld reported that Ford was being made the ”scapegoat” while Business Day said that Ford was ”out of favour with several council members”.

It added that Northerns coach Dave Nosworthy and Western Province coach Eric Simons were the front-runners to replace Ford should he be fired.

South Africa lost what was effectively a six-match Test series 5-1 to the world champion Australians.
