Five people were wounded when two men opened fire on a group of people at a shebeen in Grassy Park near Cape Town on Wednesday, Western Cape police said on Thursday.
Representative Superintendent Nina Kirsten said the incident happened in Kevin Street when a beige Opel Kadette pulled up outside the shebeen around 4pm. Two men got out of the car and enquired about a man called ”Jakkels”. When no one was able to help the gunmen opened fire.
They then got back into the car and drove off. Kirsten said a 30-year-old man was hit in the chest, stomach and buttocks and a 17-year-old youth in the buttocks. They are both reportedly members of the Yuro Cats gang.
A 53-year-old woman was shot in the left side of her body while a 43-year-old woman was hit in the right arm. A 36-year-old man was hit in the right arm.
Kirsten said the wounded were all in a stable condition in hospital except for the 30-year-old man who was reportedly in a serious condition. – Sapa
