Play starts in England vs SA test

Play on the second day of the second Test between England and South Africa at Lord’s here on Friday began at 1100GMT after rain and bad light delayed the scheduled start by 75 minutes.

Overnight, South Africa was 151 for one in reply to England’s first innings 173 — a deficit of 22.

South Africa captain Graeme Smith was 80 not out and his Western Province teammate Gary Kirsten nine not out.

After Smith won the toss, fast bowler Makhaya Ntini took five for 75 and recalled paceman Andrew Hall three for 18 to put the Proteas on top.

The five-match series is level at 0-0 after the drawn first Test at Edgbaston concluded on Monday. – Sapa-AFP
