The two pilots who died after ejecting from their Impala jet on Wednesday have been named as Paul Andrew Martin (28), and Gert Willem Diederick Duvenhage (22).
Both held the rank of lieutenant, the SA National Defence Forcesaid in a statement in Pretoria.
Duvenhage was from Muldersdrift on the West Rand and Martin from Witsand in the Western Cape.
Funeral arrangements had not yet been finalised. The two pilots died near Nelspruit in Mpumalanga after they ejected because of an apparent engine failure.
One was killed when he hit a moving truck on the N4 highway between Nelspruit and Komatipoort. The second pilot apparently died when he hit a rocky patch near
the spot where doomed aircraft crashed on the highway.
The SANDF said the Impala was on a low-level navigation flight. A board of inquiry has been convened to investigate the accident. – Sapa’
