Midweek action with Silver Stars

Expect hot midweek in Thohoyandou on Wednesday when Engen Santos FC travel away and take on first-time Premier Soccer League campaigners Silver Stars.

As Engen Santos FC regroup after last week’s defeat at the hands of another rookie team, Zulu Royals FC, the People’s team is still firmly positioned second on the Premiership table and will be sure to go all out in this contest.

Last time these two met, on September 13 2004, Engen Santos FC came up number one, beating Silver Stars at the Athlone Stadium 1-0.

A win for the People’s team will not only boost confidence in the camp but will also secure their position and challenge as key contenders to claim championship glory. Silver Stars have been fairly unlucky in their debut in the Premier Soccer League — their results have kept them in the bottom part of the Premiership table.

However, under the guidance of head coach Owen da Gama, Silver Stars have almost tasted Cup glory, having reached the final and lost against a much stronger Kaizer Chiefs in this season’s Coca Cola Cup.

Adding to the excitement of the game is key Silver Stars goal scorer Dingane Masanabo, who is jointly locked with Engen Santos FC striker Marawaan Bantam on six goals a piece.

The kick-off is at 7.3pm with tickets available at the stadium at R10 for children and R20 for adults. — Sapa
